For I know the plans I have for you

Get it at Fanciful Wish Jewelry

It's been a little over a year since my last post and boy did a lot happen over that year.  First, I got pregnant, after 2 years of trying and giving up, it happened.  Hence why my blog post title is the verse from Jeremiah 29:11.  I made some new plans and got diverted haha.

It was a high risk pregnancy so I took it easy and had many doctor's appointments plus I had to take care of my 4 year old son who is pretty active and energetic.  I was nervous with this pregnancy, so scared for the outcome, hoping for the best but not knowing, in the end it all turned out fine.  My sweet baby girl is now almost 6 months old!  How time flies when you have children.

Now with 2 kids to run after, I scaled back on my Etsy shop which makes me a bit sad.  There is so much I want to do, so many ideas, and so little time.  But I have faith it will all work out.  So my shop is up and running but with less items listed than before.  I'll be adding more things when I have some time to do them, I have new fonts and design stamps to showcase.  So stay tuned!

XO, Yolanda

DIY Dream Catcher Bracelet

I had my first Dream Catcher when I was a sophomore in high school.  We bought it on a family trip that landed us briefly in Sedona, Arizona.  It was maroon suede with feathers and it hung on my bed post so I'd have good dreams at night.  I loved that thing.  I've been seeing dream catcher bracelets around on the internet so I wanted to make one for myself.  I found some tutorials but thought I'd add to the list and make my own.

Supplies:
* embroidery floss thread or suede lace
* metal ring (key chain rings work well)
* thinner string like s-lon cord, or 4 ply Irish waxed linen, or even dental floss
* small beads
* tape (optional)
* glue like hypo cement (something that dries clear)

Choose your colors and start by taking just a little bit of tape and taping down one end of the thread to the ring.  Start wrapping your ring with the thread.

When you are done wrapping, tie a knot so that your thread doesn't unravel.  Put a dab of glue to secure the knot.

Hand Stamped Metal Jewelry

One of FancifulWish's best sellers (when I have the time to make them) are my hand stamped metal jewelry.  I like the act of pounding a metal stamp into a piece of metal.  Maybe it's stress relief?  I bought my first kit from Beaducation.  And yes I started off with a kit because I didn't know what went into metal stamped jewelry.  I would have taken a class from my local jewelry store but I was at home with a newborn with no babysitter, so learning on my own was the way to go.

Now I will warn you - making hand stamped jewelry is NOT cheap.  You can get away with using a hammer you have at home to pound your letters into your metal but the letters themselves are pricey.  I've only managed to collect 5 different types of letters, 3 of them the same font in different size with numbers included. The other a different font in lower and upper case sizes.  And then there are punctation stamps and design stamps....not cheap.

 Alphabet set stamps can run you from $30-$60.  In…

Pineapple Love

I am an island girl, born and raised in Hawaii on the island of Oahu.  And pineapple used to be big business here in Hawaii.  My immigrant family all worked for Dole Plantation back in the day- planting, growing and harvesting pineapple.  Back in the 1980's when I was a child, there used to be this huge pineapple water tower in Honolulu at the Dole Cannery.  They took that pineapple water tower down and the Dole Cannery building is now a movie theater!  My how times have changed.  But our love for pineapples here never ends.

Lately I've been seeing a quote everywhere about pineapples:

"Be like a pineapple, stand tall, wear a crown, and be sweet on the inside."

So this is me paying homage to a fun quote.  Let's all be Pineapples!  Or at least enjoy them.
